Norma McDougall Dip.Mus.Ed. (R.S.A.M), F.T.C.L., L.R.A.M.

Norma lives in West Kilbride with her husband Alasdair.

She studied Musical Education at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and has taught as principal music teacher in Ayrshire schools for many years.

In her childhood years, Norma spent time on the Isle of Lewis, giving her a great love for the gaelic language and culture which is reflected in her playing and composition.

Her career has included conducting the Glasgow Gaelic choir and the Largs Junior Gaelic choir. She was also Musical Director of Largs Pantomime for 25 years.

Norma is a well known in Scotland as an accompanist, particularly of gaelic and scots songs. Now retired, she is busier than ever, accompanying at concerts and ceilidhs, Highland Gatherings and National Mods.

In 1997 John Angus MacLeod, a well-known Bard from Harris, moved to Ayrshire and since then he and Norma have been writing songs.

Their song “Doimhneachd Anama” won the Oran Ur competition at the 2000 National Mod, and subsequently it was the Scottish entry for the Pan-Celtic Festival in 2002 in Ireland, and took first prize.
